(This is a special post for Lizzie, who also wants to knit fingerless gloves)
I have been enjoying getting back into knitting again. I knit P a black, white and grey scarf that he loves and wears often and right now I’m working on a short, ribbed, warm scarf for myself in funky pink/red/brown yarn. I aim to progress onto tricker projects, and decided that I will try fingerless gloves next. Sufficiently tricky but quick (hopefully) to knit. And quite useful too!
What I want:
- Separate fingers. I find long sleeves irritating (it’s a nurse thing) and I’m sure the mitten-type gloves would piss me off.
- Long (past the wrists) so my wrists and arms stay warm. I don’t like long sleeves, remember?
- Funky (but of course!)
Here are my favourite patterns:
Fingerless gloves with mittens are the warmest of the lot. They have a little flap that folds over exposed fingertips to keep them warm and fold away when you need to do things like type. It’s hard to explain.. so just check out the photos.
- Urban necessity mittens (pdf) – Green and Cute with a bonus beret pattern. Since I look ridiculous in berets, I’ll stick to my super-colourful beanie.
- Broad Street Mittens – knitty.com – Black and Long. A men’s design that can be “girlyfied” with some pretty yarn.
Regular fingerless gloves that I found cute are:
Lastly, some fingerless mittens that are gorgeous (and very girly).
